David had a
terrible cold and was feeling pretty miserable . The lack of energy made him feel dispirited (desanimado, desalentado) and
without any hot food and alone he was a bit down at heart.
Not being
able to go out in the sun didn´t help much, he was
also frustrated by his internet connection working on and off.
He turned on the news and heard the distressing news (angustioso, doloroso ) about the protests against
several governments around the world. He
was devastated
(desolado o destrozado) when he heard that his village by the Thames
had been flooded after the heavy rains. Many had lost their houses and they
were inconsolable. Then the
weather forecast did not cheer him up, “ another gloomy day ahead”
(no light, dark, all cloud = sombrio triste, lúgubre ) he
heard. Well, he thought, I am not going
to be either melancholic or despondent (descorazonado)
or depressed ( deprimido) , I will have a cup of tea,
and , like the song, always look on the bright side of life……..
