There are different types of skiing and you find them on icy slopes, on mountain peaks
(picos) and on bumpy runs (pistas llenas de baches) . The three
main types of skiing are Alpine ( or Downhill skiing), Nordic (cross country= toe fixed to the ski, heel free for movement) and Freestyle ( a type of acrobatics skiing) . Equipment (or
gear) varies but basically you
need a waterproof anorak , ski poles ( bastónes) for balance and a helmet ( to protect their heads). Of course you could
buy an outfit
( conjunto ó traje) that looks really smart, spend money on excellent bindings (ataduras)
, and wear special goggles
(they cover all the eyes: check the pronunciation),
and so on. One of my favourite ski resorts ( estacion de ) is Formigal as it is nearby, it
has quite good ski lifts (telesquis) and it is safe to leave your skis on the ski rack ( baca) of your car there. Don´t forget
to take your ski mask ( pasamontañas) as it
gets very windy at times
